Video Games

 

The biggest question for if video games is bad for you is "whether or not violent video games produce violent behavior." I don't think video games are THAT bad.

Some people think video games are bad for you. Scientists have researched and found out that 89% of the top video games contain violence of some kind.
Violent video games can:

• make players have joy in killing
• teaching children violence is a way to solve problems
• cause violent acts
• lead to bad behavior
• waste valuable time
• confuse reality and fantasy

However, video games can also be good for you.
It can:

• allow players to have creativity and individualism
• make kids learn without realizing it because they are so into the game
• allow players to learn that events can differ due to a variety of different reasons
• teach there's different paths to choose which lead to the same result ( different ways to beat a level )
• teach children to never give up
• teach listen carefully to instructions
• introduce children to computer technology
• provide practice in problem solving and logic
• be occasions for parent and child to play together
• be entertaining and fun

Children favor video games because:

• It's fun
• Likes to feel in control
• Relieves boredom
• Develops gaming skills

Some tips that parents should know are:

• LIMIT  time
• CHECK ratings
• AVOID machine guns
• REQUIRE homework finished
• PLAY AND ENJOY with your child
• EXPLAIN why some games can't be played
• ENCOURAGE to play outside with friends

In the case of choosing a video game, here are the ratings:

	Titles rated EC (Early Childhood) have content that may be suitable for ages 3 and older. Contains no material that parents would find inappropriate.
	Titles rated E (Everyone) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 6 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language.
	Titles rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 10 and older. Titles in this category may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language, and/or minimal suggestive themes.
	Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.
	Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons 17 years and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and/or strong language.
	Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity.
	Title listed as RP (Rating Pending) has been submitted to the ESRB and is awaiting final rating. (This symbol appears only in advertising prior to a game's release.)
